"NYSID fall 2008 kickoff party"

The Semester fall kickoff roof party was a blast as usual. Orchestrated by the student events committee, there was of course a wonderful spread of auderves and a open bar which served but the finest of drinks. The bar was of course only open to people of legal drinking age, but there was plenty of fizzy soda to give the rest of us non drinking crowed a willy fizzy tickle as well.

Dangerous Materials

I found this interesting article about dangerous materials found in most homes.

why pressed wood and particle board are dangerous! http://home.howstuffworks.com/dangerous-home-products3.htm

and carpet!
http://home.howstuffworks.com/dangerous-home-products4.htm

I know the green frenzy has caused many such articles of which some might be slightly over exaggerated or might be entirely true. Whether true or not, i would consider researching man made materials you plan on using in any of your projects and consider any healthier, sometimes labeled Eco friendly, alternatives.

Old Westbury Gardens

Old Westbury Gardens:
Here are some photos from our Landscape Design field trip to Old Westbury Gardens in LI. I recommend visiting the garden if anyone is looking for a nice day trip, date :-), or just a great garden to go visit and enjoy. Admission: $10 -----> http://www.oldwestburygardens.org/

* They have a small canteen like cafe. The yummy home made lemonade and ice teas are thankfully cheap. :-) http://www.naftalistern.com/

I also recommend taking a trip to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens http://www.bbg.org/, this is a great mid day trip, lots of shade and quite a large garden. There is a small outdoor cafe, although food is prohibited anywhere else in the gardens. If you pay a visit to the Botanical make sure to take a camera and If you are going with a friend, your kids, or spouse etc. I would strongly recommend dressing up since the gardens are a wonderful backdrop for fun photos or portraits. Admission: Adults- $8 Students- $4

You can also visit the Brooklyn Museum next door www.brooklynmuseum.org/
Admission: Adults- $8 Students- $4

For more interesting places to see and visit in this immediate area please keep posted. I will post a list of places to see, along with a schedule so you can plan a day trip to this part of wonderful Brooklyn.
